| The Proceedure |
* Find an exporter of used cars from Japan.
* Choose the used Japanese car you want.
* Contact the exporter and offer to purchase the car from Japan.
* A Pro-Forma Invoice will be issued by the Exporter, usually by fax.
* Sign and return the Pro-Forma Invoice - you have agreed to purchase the car!
* Send payment for the car to the Exporter by Telegraphic Transfer via your bank.
* Exporter books vehicle onto a ship and clears the car for shipping -
known as FOB.
* A short while after the ship has sailed from Japan the Exporter will send by
Special Air Post the shipping documents and car documents to you by courier.
* I will handle the arrival of the car in the UK and the clearance through customs.
* When the car arrives, i will clear it through UK Customs.
* Pay the shipping fee, which is calculated on the cubic meter of the vehicle.
* Pay the 10% Import Duty (+ weight adjustment fee) and 17.5% VAT
* Pay the Customs Duty.
+ Admin Fee.
* Pay the Shipping Agent for their Services.
This includes an additional BAF (basic handling fee) Admin charge.
* The car is released from Customs and available for collection.
* Prepare the car for the SVA Test or MOT test. (i.e Fit Rear Fog Lights etc.).
* SVA test and/or MOT the car.
* Insure the car for use on the road.
* Register the car and pay the registration fee.
* Drive and enjoy your imported Japanese Car!
On average it takes 8-9 wks from start to finish.
2 wks to buy, store then transport to their local docks
followed by 6-7 wks on the sea (these times can vary
due to difference in sailing time due to weather.
The car can be picked up right away from the docks once all fee's are paid,
no appointments necessary and driven right of the docks so long as it is ooked
in for an M.O.T or SVA Test.
I will inform you every week of its progress until i can give you an exact time
of arrival in port. Finalise any preferences
e.g M.O.T Preparation (Typical minimum work needed to pass an MOT test with a Japanese imported car will be the fitting of
the fitting of a rear fog light.
M.OT test - fee's will be applied for M.O.T Entry fee.
